Janus

The man once known as Chance Under Starlight has seemingly become entwined in his own personal cycle of Creation, Stasis and Entropy. Now in his third cycle, he has taken the name of Janus, a nod to the concept of duality that has at this point become one of the foundations of his less-than-stable personality.

In contrast to the death of Chance and the birth of the twin entity Lancior/Dancer, an event forged in despair, betrayal and anger, Lancior's death came quietly, not to save the world from peril but with a simple reassurance that there were people who cared for him, saw him as something more than a reluctant monster or a convenient set of abilities and knowledge. Perhaps this is what has made Janus what he seems to be, a man appreciative of the beauty of the world, reluctant to step into combat or destruction, but with a cold and merciless streak should he be pushed into it. While he lacks the split nature of his predecessor, two sides to his nature can still be seen by those that observe. Joy and melancholy, patience and exasperation, love and hate, selfishness and selflessness, these battles rage within the soul of Janus, perhaps reflections of the internal battle and torment that he has fought all of his days.

Friendlier and more willing to help than his previous cycle, perhaps as Janus he has finally started to get a small grasp on long-desired peace. But then again, perhaps not. For all of his changes, he is still the same person in essence as Lancior or Chance, and sanity has always been fragile for him at best. Only time might tell if this being has found a path to peace or if his innate instability will continue to define him.
