Union Background

Union has always been, and still remains the pivotal part to the world.

Union's portal is the central hub of all portals, and all the New Portals lead to the Union Eye. This made Union the centre of the Shards, and when the Shards were unified into a world it has remained a centre point and neutral ground for all. In years gone by it had an elected council representing all Shards, so that they may mediate disputes and issues, however this never really succeeded and was abandoned.

Not long before the Union of the Shards, a mad scientist found a way to influence orbits of the Shards and sent Union crashing into Archipelago, this collision destroyed much of the Fenris Isles. Union also had the worlds largest volcano called the Union Eye, this exploded around AU1 and left a vast lava plain, and the eye is a large crater in the middle of the Shard.

Union initially had no native population, however it was quickly claimed by many, the first major settlement being New Borgengast a home for refugees from Salem, New Borgengast is now known as The Smoke, its official name all but forgotten and is largely dominated by Vampires, it is a powerhouse of industry producing much of the worlds manufactured goods with its steam powered machines.

The Settlement of Yana is a home for refugees from floods caused by Atlantis rising.

In more recent times a small fishing village on the West Coast of the Shard called Compton has grown into a major sea side resort and naval base, it is a popular tourist resort though some think of the place as cheap and tacky. Compton is renowned as a place to have fun, and the extension to the world's longest pier started in AU13 and completed in AU 14 means Compton has the longest pier in the world.

The Institute of Curiosities moved here to set up major research projects and founded a college, and is well known as one of the formost places in the world to learn and research, it is also a sanctuary from the world politics, regarded as a place of neutral ground for peaceful meetings between factions.

Union is also home of large werewolf/wolfen/beastkin clan that roams the vast and still wild area of Union.
